30,000 words
77 pages
This process book collects index experiments done for Cranbrook 2007. I used MSWord and Adobe inDesign to search, tabulate and globally style the 30,000 words of the AIA Oak Park transcript, exploring ways to bring forward words that are critical to the technological reformulation of architectural design ("integrated practice").
I wanted to show at once the massive and microscopic extent of all the words of this emerging discourse, and to test the computational-typographic possibilities of ordinary page layout tools.
This work was inspired by the sense in which building information modeling is transforming the object of architectural design from a form in space to a set of data points.
